Established in 2019, Fridays Coventry is dedicated to reducing knife crime, anti-social behaviour and gang violence, through our sustained work and projects with and for children and young people aged 7 to 21 years old, as well as our wider, diverse communities. Alongside our FRIDAYS values of Fun, Respect, Integrity, Diligent, Ambitious, Youth-Led and Successful, all of our activity is underpinned by our five guiding principles and strategic themes: - Education - Employability - Exercise - Empowerment - Entertainment Fridays Coventry is an innovative youth enterprise, created by Founder Tyler Campbell, when he was just 18 years old. Tyler was inspired to create our unique youth organisation, after finding himself involved in petty crime and subsequently having a run-in with the Police. His decision to create Fridays Coventry was further reinforced by the sad and sudden loss of a close friend to knife violence. At Fridays, we are committed to creating a safer Coventry through genuine, positive and innovative youth leadership and community engagement. From youth club provisions through to special projects, our team works together with city-wide and regional partners, national funders and selected commercial organisations to deliver against our relevant and urgent ambitions. According to the National Crime statistics compiled by the Office for National Statistics, the West Midlands has the highest rate of knife crime offences per 100,000 of the population in England and Wales in 2023. The West Midlands has 180 knife crimes per 100,000 of the population (up from 167 in 2022), compared with London, which is at 165 per 100,000. This is devastating news for the West Midlands, especially as overall crime is actually down across the region. Providing meaningful, relevant and engaging safe spaces for our children and young people, outside of homes and educational institutions, is now more urgent than ever before.
