Game for Change

To provide innovative teaching materials around social justice, we are building education modules that incorporate technology-enabled games. These games are designed to simulate real-life experiences of people whom social forces marginalize. These modules will offer a range of comprehensive products on topics like discrimination, intersectionality, violence, health disparities, cyber insecurity, food insecurity, and migrants’ rights. Each module will consist of games, pre- and post-class materials, discussion prompts, teaching guides, and instructor training materials.Social inequalities are manifold and pervasive, seeming nearly impossible to change. To combat social inequalities requires a “whole of society” approach through which everyone, not just government and civil society, is brought on board. This whole of society approach requires awareness building across every education stream that can inspire students in sciences and engineering, arts, health professions, business, law, and social work and other fields to incorporate and transform this learning into solutions in their areas of expertise. Questions around social inequalities appear limited to only a few curricula in most universities and colleges, yet are found in all parts of society and life.
