Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Serampore

Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Serampore, is one of the pioneer institutions in India in the field of Engineering and Technology. The college was formerly known as the College of Textile Technology, Serampore, and it was established in 1908. GCETTS is the second oldest Technical College in West-Bengal after IIEST, Shibpur. The Institute started with a certificate course in Weaving. After that in the year of 1926, the women section started on separate premises. In the year 1957, the Institute started a B.Sc(Tech) degree course in Textile Technology. The B.Sc degree course turned into B.Tech in the year 1998, and the institute also started to offer an M.Tech course in Mechanical Processing of Textiles. In the year 2000, the Institute introduced Information Technology as a new stream and in the following year, Computer Science & Technology stream was launched. Later in the year 2007 and 2008, B.Tech in Apparel Production Management & M.Tech in Chemical Processing of Textiles was introduced.
