About Generations Working Together

The generations working together make for a better world. Enabling different generations to connect more, intergenerational approaches mitigate our age-siloed world, reduce ageism & foster resilient, cohesive communities. Younger & older people cite benefits in their personal lives, workplaces & communities helping their physical & mental wellbeing - meaningful intergenerational relationships & lasting friendships, improved confidence & self-esteem, better communication skills, increased mutual trust, respect & empathy, reduced loneliness & social isolation, & more. Generations Working Together (GWT, recognised internationally as a centre of excellence in intergenerational practice, started in 2007, becoming a registered charity in 2015. Let’s live in a Scotland where different generations are more connected, with everyone having opportunities to build relationships helping to create a fairer society. We develop, expand & improve intergenerational practice – projects, activities & events where different generations, who might not otherwise meet, do positive, creative things together. Its beauty is its universal applicability, impact & cost-effectiveness. A Social Return on Investment evaluation found Creating Intergenerational Communities https://generationsworkingtogether.org/news/creating-intergenerational-communities generated £3.7m in social value. With 4,000+ members, GWT share learning to build capacity - individuals, community groups & organisations, all sectors - via training, resources, in-person & online meetings, events & conferences (local, national, global), networks, local & thematic (Ageism, Education, Intergenerational Housing & Research) & research. We run Excellence Awards and co-ordinate Global Intergenerational Week, with 17 countries across 6 continents in 2025. Inspired? Please come join us. Please support our work. Make a donation.
