We are a registered NDIS provider and the first Australian wheelchair manufacturer to achieve ISO 9001 Quality Assurance accreditation.
Making exceptional wheelchairs that are completely tailored to customer specifications is in Glide’s DNA. The company was founded in the seventies by two engineering brothers who had contracts to manufacture equipment for Perth hospitals. One of the hospitals asked the brothers if they could make wheelchairs as it often took months for wheelchair orders to arrive from overseas. The prototyped wheelchair model became so successful that orders started coming from all over Australia.
Today, Glide produces manual and powered wheelchairs ranging from children to bariatric models. Glide tailor makes most wheelchairs to order in its own workshop facilities in Western Australia.
Although Glide utilises new technologies and processes to maintain efficiency and give a competitive edge, the secret to producing such well-made wheelchairs is the knowledge and loyalty of their craftspeople. Many of them have worked at Glide for 10 to 30 years.
