Greenwave Aotearoa is pioneering regenerative ocean farming in New Zealand, sharing our knowledge, skills and opportunities to create flourishing ecosystems and economies that will leave our waters brimming with abundance for future generations.
Partnering with GreenWave in the United States to adapt its highly successful model for Aotearoa New Zealand, we’re focusing on establishing a viable, scalable native seaweed supply chain that can be a powerful force in combating climate change, boosting biodiversity and creating regional jobs.
Using the native brown seaweed Ecklonia radiata as a fundamental crop, we’re working to create an end-to-end supply chain, optimise hatchery production and productivity of seaweed farming, and lay the foundation for exponential sector growth. In doing so, we seek to reduce the uncertainty around the productivity of seaweed farming operations and provide the proof of concept for farming native seaweed at scale in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our programme of work is led by impact investment project developers, EnviroStrat, in collaboration with a network of partners including Ngāi Tai Ki Tāmaki, Ngāti Pūkenga, Premium Seas, University of Waikato, University of Auckland, AgriSea and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
