Ground Water Science

Smith-Comeskey Ground Water Science LLC (Ground Water Science) has been providing scientific and training services in hydrogeology and well and drain technology, maintenance and rehabilitation since 1986 (initially as S.A.Smith Consulting Services). Ground Water Science was formed in 1997. Ground Water Science command of rock and glacial hydrogeology is second to none regionally, and our expertise in ground water system biofouling, maintenance, and rehabilitation is recognized and sought out across North America (working on some of the nation's biggest ground water projects) and beyond -- including the interface between gas and ground water in Australia, and water supply in Tanzania, Senegal, and Jordan. As hydrogeologists, we plan wells and wellfields, conduct ground water modeling, conduct well performance and aquifer testing, conduct lithologic logging, and groundwater quality testing, both water and cores. We are among the pioneers in (and nearly unique in still practicing) what we call "hard hat geomicrobiology" - the use of groundwater and solid phase sampling and analytical methods to define microbiological characteristics of aquifer materials, well structures, and groundwater, focused on biofouling and biocorrosion. We develop and train in the implementation of detailed well and wellfield maintenance (asset management) plans and the practice of hard hat geomicrobiology. Regionally, we conduct groundwater quality sampling for chemical and microbiological analysis, for example, for baseline testing prior to oil and gas drilling. In East Africa, we formed Ground+Water Tanzania Ltd., based in Dodoma in central Tanzania (groundwatertanzania.com) to manage water and sanitation projects. We now perform all services from #geophysical surveying through #borehole construction and water treatment.
