In Chinese culture, family-related issues are often considered sensitive, rarely discussed openly due to the deeply rooted belief in “not airing your dirty laundry in public” (家丑不可外扬). While this mindset has shaped contemporary society, it overlooks the critical impact that family dynamics, particularly dysfunction, can have on an individual’s upbringing and future potential.
G&H was founded to challenge these cultural norms and raise awareness around family-related issues, such as childhood adversity. As a global mutual-aid social enterprise, spanning North America, Europe, and Asia, we advocate for open communication and recognition of mental health challenges, especially within international student communities.
At G&H, we believe in fostering a people-centered community built on collaboration, partnership, advocacy, and co-creation. Our mission is to empower individuals to speak up and share their experiences, challenging societal forces that discourage open dialogue about mental health and family matters.
