Habegar Debates

Abegar ("አበጋር") is a culturally rooted conflict resolution mechanism predominantly practiced among Oromo elders living in Wollo. Habegar Debates mimics this rich Ethiopian culture and brings forth contending social, economic, political, environmental and other issues to the stage for discussion or debate towards the attainment of enhanced culture of freedom of expression and increased tolerance to opposing views; promote the exercise of peaceful and progressive exchange of ideas as opposed to resorting to conflict; and contribute to citizens' increased ability to make informed decisions.
