HELP supports independent living across the Harrogate district, providing services to ensure that everyone who wishes to remain in their own home, irrespective of their age or disability, is enabled to do so. Our support helps people stay connected with their communities and enjoy the independence that living in their own home provides.
• 'Help at Home' gardening, decorating and odd job service for people unable to do the work themselves or who could not afford a private tradesperson
• Voluntary car driving services to assist those who can't access public transport due to rural location and/or limited mobility. We help people attend medical appointments, make social visits, attend day centres and make essential trips such as shopping or banking
• Befriending service in Ripon and the more rural parts of our district
• ‘Here to HELP’ information and signposting drop in sessions taking our work out into the community
• A Friendship & Exercise Club to help people stay active and connected
The challenges of living alone are overwhelming for many of our clients, especially when they are in frail physical health or dealing with mental health issues or long-term illness. Those struggling with day to day living but not yet accessing social services support risk falling through the gaps and this is where our service steps in. To make our services accessible to those most in need of them, we invite contributions for the majority of our services, rather than charging a fixed fee. Our work over the past 12 months has been focused on addressing the key issues facing those most in need in our communities including loneliness and isolation and the rising cost of living.
