5th Homeland Defense Regiment | Heimatschutzregiment 5

Heimatschutzregiment 5 operates under the command structure of the Heimatschutzdivision (Homeland Defense Division) of the German Army and is tasked with regional defence operations within the state of Hessen. Regimental headquarters, including logistics and support elements, are garrisoned at Ohrdruf, Thuringia. Forward-deployed homeland defense companies are strategically positioned in North, Central, and South Hessen to ensure rapid regional responsiveness. Reservist training is executed year-round by mobile training teams, maintaining operational readiness across all units. All personnel undergo a comprehensive training regimen encompassing: basic and advanced combat skills, weapons handling and marksmanship, military physical fitness, political education, first aid and field medical support, guard/security operations, and NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) defence protocols. The regiment stands ready to support both territorial defence and civil disaster response operations in line with national defence mandates.
