HERWINGT is a research project with the utmost target to become one of the game-changers that will drive the transformation toward climate-neutral aviation systems.
In that frame, HERWINGT aims to design an unprecedented Wing, proper for the future Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft, and develop architectures, structures, and technologies leading to higher integration of electric systems. Through these disruptive solutions will be pursued a 50% Fuel burn reduction, at aircraft level, in three different ways:
- Pioneering Wing configurations and Improved Aerodynamic causing drag reduction, and, enabling, at wing component level, a 15% fuel burn reduction.
- Wing Structures, more integrated systems, and new material technologies toward a 20% weight reduction at component level.
- Develop the technologies to equip the Wing with fuel systems that are compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
HERWINGT also commits to delivering
- Digital twins and a life cycle assessment of the full wing system to be compatible with the digital framework of the reference aircraft.
- Α roadmap toward the wing full-scale demonstration, at aircraft level, with the first flight.
and proposes
- A qualification and certification plan ideal for Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft.
The final product of the project will be available for Enterprise Investment Scheme in 2035.
