About Hemoglobinopathies National Coordinating Center (HNCC)

The Hemoglobinopathies National Coordinating Center (HNCC) aims to improve the system of care for sickle cell disease (SCD), an inherited blood condition affecting approximately 100,000 individuals in the United States. The HNCC is a partnership between Abt Associates and the National Institute for Children’s Health Quality (NICHQ) in support of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). The HNCC will support SCD Treatment Demonstration Program grantees, SCD Newborn Screening Follow-up Program grantees, and federally qualified community health centers address structural and systemic barriers in their regions, implement evidence-based SCD care, and collaborate with newborn screening programs so that every infant identified with SCD receives early and prompt care.
