A national platform for lifelong learning, civic renewal, and the public humanities. The Study is a bold new initiative launched by Humanities North Dakota to meet an urgent national need: keeping the humanities alive and accessible during a time of unprecedented federal cuts. Designed as a digital refuge for critical thinking and meaningful dialogue, The Study offers free and low-cost classes, lectures, book talks, and civil conversations led by renowned scholars across disciplines. Rooted in the belief that a thoughtful, informed society benefits everyone, The Study helps people find time to think—about history, ethics, literature, politics, identity, and more. It’s a space to slow down, ask big questions, and connect with others across differences. We serve thousands of learners across all 50 states through: Live and on-demand programs on literature, civics, history, religion, philosophy, and culture Study Clubs that bring local groups together to explore curated content and host meaningful conversations Pay-What-You-Wish access to ensure equity and inclusivity National partnerships that extend our reach to underserved and rural communities Whether you're a curious individual, a community leader, a scholar, or a funder—The Study invites you to join us in creating a more curious, compassionate, and civically engaged world.
