The Environmental Hydraulics Institute "IHCantabria" is a mixed research institute that arises from the combined effort of two institutions, the University of Cantabria and the Government of Cantabria through the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of Cantabria Foundation.
The Institute's activities focus on basic and applied research as well as the development of studies, methodologies and tools for the integrated management of aquatic ecosystems including inland waters, transitional waters and coastal waters, integrating all relevant processes , As well as socio-economic aspects for an efficient and sustainable management of the integral water cycle.
This work has placed IHCantabria in the national and international elite of the area of scientific-technological knowledge related to the water cycle in its various facets.
IHCantabria is made up of more than 140 researchers and has more than thirty years of experience.
To achieve its objectives, the Institute carries out three types of activities: Research, Technological Transfer and Training.
The IHCantabria facilities have been financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Government of Cantabria and FEDER Funds of the European Union to become a Single Technical Scientific Facility (ICTS).
