The University of Virginia’s Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy (ILPPP) leads in forensic psychology, psychiatry, neuropsychology, and mental health law. Our interdisciplinary program integrates research, forensic evaluations, education, and public policy to address complex legal and psychological challenges with scientific rigor. Research: We conduct cutting-edge studies on clinical and legal decision-making, forensic evaluation standards, and mental health policy, with funding from organizations like the National Science Foundation and MacArthur Foundation. Forensic Clinic: Our experts perform evaluations and provide testimony across criminal and civil cases, consulting in state, federal, and military settings. Training: ILPPP offers online and in-person training in forensic evaluation and mental health law for professionals nationwide, along with competitive fellowships and practicum placements for emerging scholars.
