About National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies - IMT Bucharest

INCD for Microtechnology - IMT Bucharest stands out as an institute created on a high technology theme, corresponding to the evolutions in the European Union. IMT was established as a national institute in November 1996 through the merger of the Institute of Microtechnology - IMT (which appeared in 1991 as a Center) and the Research Institute for Electronic Components - ICCE (created in 1969). Thus, also supported by the pre-existing expertise in microelectronics, IMT was the first microtechnology institute in Eastern Europe and has maintained this orientation. Currently, IMT Bucharest carries out RDI activities in the field of micro-nanotechnologies and micro-nanosystems, approaching research directions correlated with those from EU programs and the National Strategy for Research, Innovation and Intelligent Specialization (SNCISI, 2022-2027). IMT is an institute of excellence, proven by its success in numerous national and international projects - FP6, FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe, and EDF. The research infrastructure, IMT-MINAFAB, was recognized as a landmark infrastructure by the Romanian Committee for Research Infrastructures and is relevant at the European/International level. The services portfolio includes the entire range of technologies and processes required for developing new technologies and devices, sensors, and microsystems, starting with CAD design and simulation and up to technological processing and functional testing. MT-MINAFAB is part of the EuroNanoLab distributed research infrastructure, comprising over 40 state-of-the-art academic nanofabrication centers across Europe. Its main vision is to accelerate research in the micro- and nanotechnology sectors by enabling the transformation of a fragmented landscape of nanofabrication facilities into an integrated knowledge base supporting scientific excellence.
