For over 50 years, the Indian Natural Resources, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP) at Cal Poly Humboldt provides academic and research support services to first generation, low income, and historically underrepresented students in STEM disciplines with a focus on American Indian and Indigenous students. Through community based participatory research, we strive to work as partners with local tribal communities, learn through their Indigenous knowledge lenses, and contribute to each tribe’s respective goals. INRSEP affiliated programs: Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP), McNair Scholars Program, CIRM Bridges 3.0 Scholars Program, Geoscience Alliance, Native Food, Energy, and Water Systems (FEWS) Alliance, Ecological Forecasting Initiative, and AISES - American Indian Science and Engineering Society. We encourage and facilitate our students’ participation in SACNAS - the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs), and other research opportunities. We mentor students into careers, graduate programs, and (if eligible) fully-funded doctoral programs to improve STEM fields by empowering our students to become leaders who give back to their communities, society, and future generations while strengthening connections with their heritage and culture.
