About Intermediaries for Justice

IfJ is a registered charity with a vision of opening the ‘accessible door’ to justice; where all people understand the questions they are asked and can tell what has happened. IfJ promotes and supports the work of intermediaries. Intermediaries are communication specialists working in the Justice Systems of England, Wales and Northern Ireland who enable vulnerable witnesses, victims, suspects and defendants to give complete, coherent and accurate evidence to the police and at court. Intermediaries for Justice (IfJ) was founded in 2013 by a group of experienced intermediaries who recognised the importance of raising public awareness about the role and the need to unite the profession. IfJ’s aim is to ‘give a voice to the voiceless’ (Baroness Helen Newlove, Victims’ Commissioner). To date, IfJ has been self-funding and volunteer led, with 250 members, including a small number of associate members, 4 honorary members, 11 Trustees and one Patron. IfJ currently offers: - an intermediary referral system for solicitors - training and seminars for intermediaries and related professions - intermediary and associate membership - resources for general the public and parents/carers of vulnerable people - available on our website
