Officially registered as a humanitarian organisation with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on March 8, 2019, marking International Women’s Day, Intisar Foundation is the first charitable organisation to provide drama therapy sessions to women affected by the trauma of war and violence in the Arab world.
It has been hailed for developing and introducing an innovative approach to Peacebuilding in the Arab world based on enabling the psychological recovery and self-empowerment of women traumatised by war and violence through the use of drama therapy.
Intisar Foundation amplifies its work by framing it around three strategic initiatives:
- Providing online/offline drama therapy sessions to Arab women traumatised by war and violence,
- Encouraging education in drama therapy by providing scholarships for the next generation of Arab drama therapists,
- Encouraging research in the field of drama therapy in the Arab world and beyond.
Each of these three strategic goals is directed towards achieving the foundation’s One Million Arab Women initiative, a 30-year plan to alleviate psychological trauma in one million Arab women impacted by the brutality of war and violence through the use of drama therapy.
