About ItihāSology

In Sanskrit, itihāsa translates to ‘thus, indeed, it was,’ and it is the essence of this word that Itihāsology celebrates through the documentation of India’s varicoloured and multilayered histories. Established in 2019 by Eric Chopra, Itihāsology primarily operates as an educational page on Instagram and is deeply entrenched in India’s tangible and intangible histories. The platform’s aim is to introduce history aficionados from around the world to a multitude of historical narratives, igniting curiosity and offering diverse perspectives on these stories. Since its inception, Itihāsology has curated a series of informative history-based posts, stories, and reels, all rooted in rigorous research and conveyed in an invigorating and inclusive language. The platform’s belief is that nobody should feel ‘out of history,’ and thus, its work goes beyond mainstream historical narratives as it delves into the lesser-known aspects of the Indian past, exploring stories found in its footnotes. From overarching themes like society, polity, and economy to diverse topics such as histories of art, gender, sexuality, fashion, horror, and more, Itihāsology covers a wide spectrum of subjects. To make history more accessible, Itihāsology organises immersive museum walks and heritage tours that guide people through the corridors of history. Additionally, the platform also hosts The Itihāsology Podcast and frequently conducts book reviews, hosts virtual interactions with historians, and runs giveaways to engage with its community of history-lovers. With an unwavering spirit and a deep passion for the history of the subcontinent, the platform launched The Itihāsology Journal in 2021, with the aim to provide a platform for aspiring academicians who wish to illuminate narratives from Indian history that captivate them. The Journal has released two digital and freely accessible editions, both of which have received appreciation and reviews from renowned historians.
