After over 20 years working in regulatory compliance in the environmental and waste sectors, there were two constants that I observed: 1. Regulatory compliance requirements were becoming more complex, and 2. Not everyone responsible for ensuring compliance had the necessary skills to do so. Very often, I saw one, or both, of these things result in poor regulatory outcomes. Regulated industries were paying a heavy price for misunderstandings of regulatory requirements in terms of both money and reputation. Regulatory authorities struggled to maintain credibility when their officers were overstepping their bounds or making errors. Both groups could tell many tales of bad experiences. Both could point to these experiences for many things that ended up in the "too hard" basket. Regulation does not have to be this way and result in these outcomes. This is why I founded JS Regulatory Services (JSRS). JSRS provides a broad range of specialist services. We can help: - Regulated industries understand and meet their requirements, navigate regulatory hurdles and be proactive in managing risks for existing and proposed activities. - Regulatory agencies to develop policy and procedures that apply limited resources to areas of greatest benefit and provide consistency in their activities. - Regulatory officers to gain and develop the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil their responsibilities effectively and lawfully.
