Kaledonistit is the oldest student exchange in both Finland and Canada, providing a three-month immersion in Finnish or Canadian culture through an extensive orientation, fellowship with alumni of past exchanges and a ten-week work period. The program is organized between the University of Toronto and three different universities in Helsinki area: Aalto University, the University of Helsinki and Hanken School of Economics. In Canada, the program is known as the Hart House Finnish Exchange. The exchange operates on a four-year cycle, whereby a group of students travels in one direction or the other every two years. In the summer of 2023, a group of six Finnish students traveled to Canada for a one-week orientation tour and a ten-week work placement; in the summer of 2021, a group of five Canadians worked in Finland. The next exchange will take in place during the summer 2025, when six Canadian students will arrive to Finland.
