Department of Applied Mathematics - University of Žilina

The Department of Applied Mathematics provides teaching of mathematics and applied mathematics subjects in all fields of study of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in bachelor, engineering and doctoral studies. It belongs to the historically oldest departments not only of the faculty, but it is one of the founding departments of the whole university or the VŠD. The scientific research activity of the department has two fundamental levels in the historical context: the problem of properties of differential equations with shifted argument and the area of research on special functions, in particular orthogonal polynomials. In addition to these two main areas of research, the Department is also intensively involved in applied research in the field of engineering sciences (mathematical modelling, statistical analysis), as well as in economics and environmental physics.
