Kojasa, also known as Jelata Rakyat Sabah Co-operative Berhad, was officially established on 26th July, 1978, born by the brilliant idea from Tan Sri Datuk Panglima Harris Salleh. The primary goal of Kojasa’s establishment was to develop healthy competition in Sabah’s economy. Kojasa was established in response to the government’s concerns regarding the rising cost of living, particularly the basic daily needs such as food. Prior to this, Kojasa had been opened in several districts in Sabah such as Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Keningau.
Incorporated in 2015, Kojasa Holdings Berhad (KOJASA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB) following its acquisition by the Chief Minister of Sabah, Qhazanah Sabah is a strategic partner of the Sabah State Government in developing the economy and supporting the transformation of Sabah into a progressive and developed state in Malaysia.
In authorizing the takeover of KOJASA, the Sabah State Government entrusted QSB to help restore KOJASA. Kojasa Mart the “Pasaraya Rakyat” is the first project formed after the revival of KOJASA of QSB with the aim of providing its services prioritizing Sabahan’s needs.
Today, Kojasa Holdings Berhad holds Kojasa Trading Sdn Bhd (KTSB), Kojax Sdn Bhd (KOJAX) and Sabah Marketing Corporation Sdn Bhd (SAMA). Collectively, the subsidiaries share the core ideals of KOJASA for the local communities.
