EPOC laboratory

EPOC (Environnements et Paléoenvironnements Océaniques et Continentaux) is a Mixed Research Unit (UMR) attached to the CNRS, the University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux INP and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, with 165 permanent staff (76 lecturers and university professors, 20 researchers and 69 engineers, technicians and administrative staff) and 97 non-permanent staff (35 engineers, technicians and administrative staff, 42 doctoral students and 20 post-doctoral students). EPOC is developing interdisciplinary research based on strong expertise in ecotoxicology, ecology, biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, sedimentology, palaeoclimatology, oceanography and geosciences to understand and predict the impacts of global change and climate change on different environmental ecosystems. Alongside its research activities, EPOC's staff run a rich, multi-disciplinary teaching programme in the environmental sciences, combining chemistry, ecology, physics, geosciences, ecotoxicology, etc., from L1 to Master's level for the University, but also as part of various engineering and BUT (university bachelor of technology) courses. EPOC welcomes an average of 83 trainees of all levels and backgrounds each year.
