LVD formed Ovid BP Systems, Inc. and Morelight Technologies, Inc. based on software system and optical sensor technologies developed and incubated to MVP prototype status.
Prior to Ovid and Morelight, LVD was retained by a global, Japan-based automotive safety OEM to develop and execute innovation strategy serving defined corporate growth objectives. Work over the five years relationship included:
• Design of an innovation framework and strategy identifying new business and product development opportunities in $3B to $20B segments of automotive, medical device and water treatment industries
• Generated deal flow via a resource network of incubators/accelerators, aligned VCs, university labs, and thought leaders
• Sourced and evaluated over 100 companies leading to licensing deals, seed-stage, and follow-on investments
• Identified, and successfully negotiated licensing deals for optical sensor, telematics, and respiration monitoring technologies identified as platforms for new driver safety products
• Created patented driver safety/text-blocking technology introduced at NHTSA Distracted Driver Technology conference and demonstrated to automotive OEMs through alliance with AT&T’s Drive Studio
• Developed strategy to enter a $3B segment of the water treatment industry by leveraging a “stranded” chemical process technology with a seed-stage investment in a water treatment startup
• Leveraged technology licensed for auto safety application to create a spin-out medical device company addressing an unmet need in the $15B market for diagnostic and health monitoring products
