About Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change
As one of the major research museums of the Leibniz Association, we have taken on the task of analyzing biological diversity and its changes, as well as understanding the causes of these changes. We share our knowledge and work on recommendations for action to preserve our foundation of life. In exchange and collaboration with society, politics, business, and culture, we provide evidence-based solutions on how we, as a global society, can further develop the overexploited, agriculture-intensive areas to protect biodiversity and take responsibility for our role in this transformation. In our research museum, all employees work together towards one goal: the preservation of our nature. At the two museums of the LIB, the Museum Koenig Bonn and the Museum of Nature Hamburg, research, collections, and knowledge transfer are closely intertwined. These three pillars form a unity in our effort to actively accompany the process of societal transformation through fundamental research questions in evolutionary biology, applied ecosystem research, exhibitions, and educational and event programs. We use our exhibitions as places of experience, entertainment, fascination, and participation. This also includes passing on our knowledge to students, pupils, and staff of partner organizations around the globe. The central task is to preserve and document the knowledge about the biodiversity of our planet and to make our valuable collections, consisting of 16 million objects in the fields of zoology, geology, paleontology, and mineralogy, and the information they contain, freely accessible.
