Liwan was launched as a project in August 2018 through a participatory process that engaged a diverse group of young people. Four years later, in 2021 Liwan Youth Space was established as an independent nonprofit organization. Liwan provides a physical (safe) space where young people and supports capacity development, mobilisation and organising in a ‘safe space’ where youth can freely convene, meet, discuss, debate and co-create and organize into groups and initiatives in an environment that stimulates individual growth, are free from discrimination and control and where the agenda is youth-led. This enables youth to take an active part in social change and democratic action towards issues of concern.
