Lobular Breast Cancer UK (LBCUK) is a patient advocacy charity working to increase information, knowledge and understanding of this distinct disease.
15% of all breast cancers diagnosed are lobular and 22 people receive a lobular diagnosis every day in the UK.
Lobular presents many unique challenges.
It rarely forms a lump, making it hard to see on mammograms and other imaging tools. Instead it grows in lines or sheets of cells.
It can spread to unusual places in the body such as the gastrointestinal tract, the ovaries or even the eyes.
If it recurs, it is more likely to be 10 - 15 years after diagnosis, rather than the 5 years covered by current guidelines.
Receiving a lobular diagnosis can be extremely isolating, and it is hard to find information about the disease in the UK. We hope to change that at LBCUK.
By working with clinicians and researchers, key charity partners and our supporters, we aim to provide clear information for anyone providing a lobular diagnosis; increase the research that is being conducted on lobular across the UK and internationally; and change treatment guidelines to ensure that lobular is recognised as a distinct disease.
