Local Threads Collective

Local Threads is a community-driven collective, started in September 2023, in the ever-hustling suburbs of Mumbai. We aim to offer a safe space for people to come together and address individualism by prioritising sharing, leisure, creativity, dialogue and collective growth. Each ‘Thread’ is you and me, and together we weave into the fabric of society. We hope to counter the isolation in urban society through creating memories of warmth and solidarity. We’d like to think as a community rather than individuals and nurture the connections around us ‘Locally’, hence the name ‘Local Threads’. We organise our community gatherings around the following type of events: A. Offline Hours (Every Saturday evening) The community meets in a garden to pause our screens to read, create, loiter in nature for 2 hours and then engage in a discussion or fun activity with the group. B. Curated Events (Any one of the following events, once a month) 1. Swap Meetups - Exchanging clothes, books, accessories, decor, stationary, etc. thus extending the life of these items, discovering new things at low cost, and minimising waste. 2. Music & Movies - Movie screenings and music listening sessions where we watch, listen, reflect together. 3. Creative Expression - Explore ourselves through writing, color, crafts, playing music, dance, and drama. 4. Recreation - Relaxing meetups like picnics, potlucks, games, cycling, & walks for a peaceful break. 5. Discussion Circles - Collective discussions on topics that affect individuals and society, such as mental health, personal well-being, inclusivity, climate change, human rights.
