The Mechatronics, Automation and Design (MAD) research group conducts research on manufacturing systems, robotics and machine vision. For the last decade, we have done research on the design and control of modern manufacturing systems, considering both established and cutting-edge technologies and approaches. Currently, the research focus is on the Industry 4.0 manufacturing context: the enabling technologies like Cyber-Physical Systems (specifically Digital Twins) and the Internet of Things, and the effective integration of humans at various levels within such systems. The other focus of the group is on vision based dimensional metrology. We develop methods of automated, vision based inspection and measurement for applications in areas such as manufacturing, biomedical engineering and robotic navigation. Our work in this area has a strong emphasis on precision and traceability of measurements.
