Magma Ventures was founded when the Chamria family had a liquidity event on transferring control of Magma Fincorp* (listed NBFC) to the Poonawalla group in 2021.

Magma Ventures is an investment business with independent teams focused on four verticals-
> Listed Equities (Fundamental/Long-only): public market opportunities that will create outsized returns in the 3-5 year time horizon (small/midcaps, and opportunistically large caps)
> Derivatives (Futures & Options): strategies across Options trades (spreads, volatility arbitrage), Long/short trades, and Special Situation trades (M&A, share buybacks, open offers, etc)
> Unlisted (early/growth stage): focus on early-to-growth stage companies directly and through top-quartile VC-PE funds
> Structured Credit (specialized debt solutions): strategic interest in few funds to provide special-situation financing (acquisition or growth finance, exit to investors, share buyback, etc) and debt-restructuring deals (debt settlement/refinancing, last-mile financing, etc)
*Magma Fincorp was founded in 1988 and grew to become one of India’s large retail NBFC’s having nearly 10k employees, across 300+ branches, in 20+ states, and AUM peaking at INR19,500cr. Magma was engaged in vehicle financing, mortgage lending, and SME financing and it entered the general insurance business through a JV with HDI Gerling of Germany (Magma HDI GIC). Magma had been funded by blue-chip investors- PE funds including KKR, IFC, Chrys Capital, True North etc along with Institutional Investors such as HDFC Life / I-Pru Life / Nippon MF, Goldman Sachs, Amansa Capital etc.
