Making Food Democracy is a collaborative research project between the University of Trento and the University of Padua, investigating the appearance and effectiveness of local food policies in urban contexts. Focused on sustainability and democratic governance, the project aims to:
- Advance theoretical understanding of sustainable food policies and local democracy.
- Conduct empirical analyses of European cities' local food strategies.
- Transfer knowledge to Italian cities, specifically Trento and Padua, through a living lab methodology.
Employing a mix-methods approach, including documentary analysis, data scrutiny, interviews, and direct participation, the project investigates urban food governance dynamics and stakeholder engagement.
The project aims to produce actionable insights and policy recommendations to inform sustainable food governance practices, facilitating positive change towards more democratic, accessible, and environmentally sustainable food systems.
The project started in December 2023 and is financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU, within the framework of PRIN (Progetti di ricerca di Rilevante Interesse Nazionale) 2022 PNRR, project “MAKING FOOD DEMOCRACY.
