M'arbies

Curated by high schoolers Aneesha Aryan and Laavanya Rasiah for MIT Club of Boston's Youthful Voices program, this series draws inspiration from a pivotal scene in the 2023 Barbie movie, where Barbie storms into the boardroom at Mattel and finds herself facing a room full of men trying to control her, insisting that she return to a box. Barbie feels a powerful urge to resist—and she does. The Barbie movie was intended as a landmark in depicting women’s progress to date, highlighting both the misconceptions surrounding gender equality and the persistent struggles women face, including societal limitations, glass ceilings, and barriers. Our aim is to share the inspiring stories of MIT women who have broken free from the "box" and forged paths beyond stereotypes.
