Designed for the future, Los Azules uses heap leach SX/EW processing, eliminating the need for a tailings dam and reducing fresh water use and electricity consumption by ~75% versus conventional milling. GHG emissions are projected to drop by 57%, with a clear pathway to net-zero by 2038—positioning Los Azules as a benchmark for responsible, low-carbon copper production.
The project’s upside is enhanced by continuous high-grade mineralization and exploration potential. It also offers optionality through the potential application of Rio Tinto’s Nuton™ technology for leaching primary sulphide copper, further increasing recovery and sustainability performance.
