About MECO Training

MECOTraining.com provide a lifelong learning platform for anyone who operates, or works with marine electrical or electronics systems, either as, captain, crew, installer, engineer, or vessel owner. In addition to a ´from the basics to intermediate level´ introduction to general electrical and electronics engineering we also cover the key elements required from the international plethora of standards and regulations applicable to maintenance, installation, restoration, faultfinding and inspection of the DC and AC electrical systems onboard vessels less than 24m. We provide training that ramps up based on an assumption there is no pre-course electrical knowledge or experience. Many of our learners however come from engineering backgrounds and hold some electrical knowledge. The highest level attainable within the MECO frameworks covers in detail elements that are not ordinarily covered in standard marine electrical and electronics courses, such as a full stack study of data protocols from the signal pulse, right through to the application layer of established low speed data protocols such as NMEA 0183 V1, V2, V3, and CAN BUS technology such as NMEA 2000. We also study how low speed networks and high speed IP based networks work together, and the combined NMEA ONE NET system. We cover in detail the methods available to interface pretty much anything that produces data from older Engine Data Protocols such as J1708 and J1939 to NMEA 2000 to show engine data on the network, but also how to take analogue data from gauges, or sensors, and sender units and convert this into CAN Bus data for the NMEA 2000 Bus. In addition to this, the level 3 course covers RF cabling practices that are often overlooked such as signal loss, VSWR, cable length calculations based on Velocity Factors, Frequency and Cable type, and much more. Beneficial to boat owners, fleet managers, marine electricians, marine engineers. Access for life, refresh your skills as needed.
