MED•GEM Network

The objective of MED-GEM Network is to create and operate a Mediterranean Green Electrons & Molecules (Med-GEM) Network in the Southern Neighbourhood region by convening dialogue and collaborative activities between key energy stakeholders, in order to facilitate and promote the growth of the GEM industry at regional level. In parallel, MED-GEM Network also aim at increasing public awareness on the imperative need for an accelerated clean energy transition (involving civil society organisations). The mission of MED-GEM Network is to support the energy transition in the Southern Neighbourhood countries and contribute to overcoming socioeconomic and climate issues in the region. 🗓 Duration: 30 months (2023-2025) 🎯 The MED-GEM Network is expected to provide expertise, analysis and recommendations on a large number of domains, such as (non-exhaustive list): • Necessary policy reforms to boost renewable electricity generation in the region; • Assessment of the potential for renewable and low-carbon gas production and trade in the region, and feasibility of the deployment of various forms of power to gas technologies, as well as bio-gas, bio-methane and synthetic methane; • Analysis of the market failures and barriers (legal and regulatory, administrative, technical, financial) to (public and private) investments in GEMs and proposals to overcome them; • Most appropriate financing mechanisms (already existing or to be created) to enhance access to finance for pilot/demonstration projects; • Capacity building of stakeholders on domains of interest related to GE and GM deployments in the region; • Enhanced awareness of populations on the energy and climate change challenges and opportunities for a behavioral change.
