Metro(polis) Makers

Metro Makers is an educational initiative that harnesses the power of urban planning and city psychology to foster healthier urban environments through the perspectives of NYC's youth. Our programs emphasize co-design and participatory research, introducing middle and high school students to the functions of space through hands-on workshops, ethnographic field trips, and community-based projects. These activities address critical urban issues such as housing rights, inadequate infrastructure, and limited green spaces, emphasizing their impact on social determinants of health. By equipping young people with practical skills, Metro Makers empowers them to actively improve their neighborhoods and champion sustainable, mental health-conscious, community-driven development. We envision a world where every young person has the capacity and resources to enact change, fostering healthier, more vibrant communities for all.
