Millicent Designs

Millicent Designs is a multi-disciplinary design consulting venture in the Solomon Islands founded by Millicent Barty. It's mission is to bridge the gap in effective communications to alleviate social cleavages and impediments to social and sustainable development projects in the Solomon Islands. Millicent Designs offers services in Branding/Marketing, Interior Design, Commercial Design and Communications Designs however, Millicent specialises in information-graphics utilising the structures of our traditional oral history (Kastom Stories) of the Solomon Islands to produce effective and comprehensive communication materials for community awareness initiatives. In understanding that only 17% of our adult population (25-60yrs) are literate, Millicent is a passionate advocate for keeping remote rural communities of the Solomon Islands informed by innovatively using her proficiency in the cultural context of information acquisition and designing concepts to deliver effective translation of complex information to empower our illiterate populace. Millicent Designs has been the National preferred Communications Consultant for UNDP for the past 3 years and building a portfolio in large infrastructural projects in the country such as Tina Hydro Project (Dam) and Bina Cannery Project. MD's Kastom Stori Taem communication tool (developed whilst studying BA Design at the notable Goldsmiths, University of London, UK) and work with the Solomon Islands National General Elections for civil awareness translating political pledges, complexities of voting and empowering women in leadership and political participation, awarded her the prestigious Queen's Young Leaders award 2018. Millicent (founder), is a young Solomon Islander and prides herself in supporting NGO's and Development Agencies in the Solomon Islands to effectively bridge communication gaps with all stakeholders involved in a project.
