Kastom Keepers

Kastom Keepers aims to preserve, protect and increase access to Melanesian ‘kastom’ stories which is a catalogue of indigenous wisdom about the environment, customary practices and traditional governing systems for future custodians. Indigenous knowledge particularly from the Pacific Islands sub-region Melanesia, continues to be an under-utilised resource in global conversations on climate action and adaptation. This leads to adaptation mechanisms lacking effective local context as very little is known about how local people in remote rural areas perceive and cope with climate change. A great value that education has to offer is in the transformative potential of adaptation learning support. This includes curricular, pedagogical and technological resources that prepare people for complex adaptive decision-making helping them to solidify learning during that work.
