About Minority Watch

Minority Watch is a non-profit organization of lawyers and paralegals committed to the protection and enforcement of the rights and dignity of LGBTQI+ persons, people living with HIV, women and girls in Nigeria. To live up to our commitment, we focus on doing legal research, providing legal support, engaging in strategic litigation, stakeholder engagement, and advocating for gender justice. We partner with government and its agencies, law makers, civil society organizations and other like-minded organizations to demand the repeal of discriminatory laws, implement inclusive policies and develop legal frameworks that protect and empower those made vulnerable by laws and policies in Nigeria. Minority Watch envisions a society where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, HIV status or gender identity, can live free from violence and discrimination. Founded in 2022, we have been legally empowering members of the communities we serve by demonstrating to them how seeking redress through courts of law is not only their right but a real and practical option. Beyond documenting human rights abuses, we actively pursue justice by holding perpetrators to account through legal interventions and strategic litigation; showing communities that the law can serve as a tool for protection and change.
