"Rebuilding Hope Through Knowledge and Sustainability: A Free and Nonprofit Mobile Library Initiative in Mosul"
The Mobile Library Initiative is a visionary project conceived by Prof. Dr. Abdulsatar Sultan, a dedicated scholar and community leader, in collaboration with innovative thinkers from the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA). This free and nonprofit initiative is committed to empowering communities affected by conflict in Mosul and its surrounding areas by providing access to educational resources, books, and digital tools to underserved populations.
Leveraging solar-powered technology, the mobile library ensures sustainable operations, even in areas with limited or no electricity. Beyond education, it serves as a platform for promoting literacy, enhancing skills, and supporting lifelong learning, particularly for children, youth, and women impacted by the war.
Reflecting on his experience, Prof. Dr. Abdulsatar Sultan shared:
"عندما زرت مدينتي بعد ٢٠١٧ وجدت كل شيء تدمر وخصوصاً المكتبات قد حرقت. أؤمن أن أعداء الإنسانية يفكرون بتدمير العقل قبل البشر. لهذا أؤمن أن بناء العقل أهم من بناء الحجر."
("When I visited my city after 2017, I found that everything had been destroyed, especially the libraries, which had been burned. I believe that the enemies of humanity aim to destroy minds before destroying people. This is why I believe that building minds is more important than building stones.")
Founded on Prof. Dr. Sultan's belief in education as a cornerstone for rebuilding society, the initiative addresses gaps in access to educational resources post-conflict, fostering recovery, social cohesion, and long-term development. Through the support of AGYA and interdisciplinary collaboration, the project integrates innovative approaches and international expertise to maximize its impact.
