About MunBio
The MunBio project, funded by The Ministry of the Environment (Finland), aims to establish a circular economy ecosystem for various biomaterials at the Lohja Munkkaa waste center area. The main objective is to achieve more efficient and local recycling of nutrients, water management, and production of cleaner biomass, local foods, soil improvers, and raw materials for food production among stakeholders. In addition, the project aims to improve the water management system of landfill areas, and to reduce the load of nutrients into the city's wastewater treatment plant. Climate change mitigation is also a focus, with biochar production from biomass enabling the permanent sequestration of carbon. The functionality of this ecosystem will undergo testing through various pilots within the project, allowing for the investigation of economic and operational prerequisites for industrial-scale cooperation. Ultimately, the goal is to establish a local pilot that could be replicated in other locations. The project partners are GRK, Kiertoravinne, Redono, and Rosk'n Roll.
