We endeavor to disrupt the endless cycle of poverty & food insecurity that traps these underserved children. Our approach starts by feeding the tender roots of the neighborhood - the children themselves. We feed their mind and body by introducing the ideas of a strong body, an active mind and the skills, knowledge and experience they will need to develop the self reliance to provide these things for themselves. CANCEL FOOD INSECURITY-ONE STEP AT A TIME EACH STEP MATTERS Step 1 – Teach the kids to LOVE healthy produce. Step 2 – Teach the kids to LOVE healthy movement. Step 3 – Improve grades through building a healthier brain, regular exercise & tutoring. Step 4 – Teach the kids to grow their own food. Step 5 – Teach the kids the entrepreneurial skills of organizing/participating in farmer’s markets. Step 6 – Repeat until there are no more food deserts & food insecurities. BACKGROUND & NEED You Can Not Tell A Child You Gave Them Food Yesterday! 62% of Cincinnati children qualify for food assistance (3rd worst nationally). Food insecure children are76% more likely to have cognitive, language and behavior problems. Demographic is 90% black, 7% Hispanic and 3% white. Impacted neighborhoods are characterized by: No full-service grocery stores within a mile. No community gardens or farmer markets. Minimal car ownership. High poverty rates. Densely populated. High numbers of fast-food restaurants and convenience stores.
