Nature Village is a multidisciplinary group integrated by University Village Residents, UC Berkeley students, Staff, Campus sustainability groups, and Volunteers that work together with the overarching goal of promoting sustainable living practices at the University Village.
We are working on Energy Saving, Water Conservation, Waste Management (recycle, compost, reuse, and E-waste), Education and Outreach.
Nature Village was envisioned spring 2011 when University Village resident Lludmila Moran became increasingly aware that there was no sustainability program at UVA. She organized a multicultural group of residents, UC Berkeley students, staff, campus sustainability groups, and non-profit organizations in fall 2011 who, together, created Nature Village with the following goals:
Reduce the environmental impact of University Village. Improve the knowledge and lifestyle practices of residents in relation to resource management, including of water, energy, natural gas, and solid waste. Experiment with environmental education for children and families. Create a stronger sense of community and life experience at University Village through active participation in environmental programs and activities.
In spring 2012, Nature Village began outreach and fundraising and received grant money from The Green Initiative Fund.
