About University of Notre Dame Dublin

Derived from the Irish proverb “Is ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine," which means “We all flourish in community,” the Notre Dame Dublin motto reflects the core focus on community. Since the establishment of the Dublin study abroad program in 1998, more than 4,000 students have had an immersive educational experience in Dublin, complete with authentic cultural programming that enriches the study abroad experience and leads to a holistic and genuine appreciation for Ireland. The University's presence in Ireland has grown since 1998 with the establishment of Notre Dame Kylemore Abbey and the Notre Dame Newman Centre for Faith and Reason at Newman University Church. These three centres make up the heart of the University of Notre Dame's scholarly endeavours in Ireland. Notre Dame Dublin is the convener of prestigious institutional research collaborations with Irish partner universities, internship and research opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students, seminar series for faculty and graduate students, academic events and conferences, and more. Since 2004, Notre Dame’s home in Dublin has been in O’Connell House, a historic building on Merrion Square which was once the residence of noted Irish Catholic political leader Daniel O’Connell. Its eye-catching blue door is open to all Notre Dame visitors. The space can host teaching and scholarly endeavors, and is a welcoming space to share a meal, study in the library, or join together in prayer in Saint Patrick’s Chapel. Given Ireland's rich literary history, it should come as no surprise that Notre Dame Dublin regularly hosts contemporary Irish poets, dramatists, and novelists, many of whom are eager to engage with students. Beyond the arts, Dublin also plays host to hundreds of large multinational companies including IBM, Intel, Google, Bank of America, Pfizer, and many more. Add in world-class universities and libraries, and Dublin ranks as an ideal place to learn, research, and work.
