We are a grower and curer of vanilla beans, vanilla extract and vanilla powder, based in Uganda on Ndali Farm, beloved by homebaking customers and many top UK chefs, among them Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Delia Smith, Mark Hix and Jason Atherton.
Because we cure in small artisanal batches, and live and work alongside our vanilla farmers, who have been growing with us over the past 20 years, we are able to produce the best quality vanilla in the world. A sign of which is that a high proportion of our crop explodes in vanillin crystals.
We've gone to great lengths to reforest the 680 acre Ndali Estate over the past 20 years, which now has 450 acres of regenerating dense tropical hardwood forest, which had been decimated over 80 years ago; and the surrounding community of hundreds of families have access to Ndali Estate for their firewood, sustainable building poles, vital medicinal plants and tree barks unavailable elsewhere.
Our 2,000 strong Rwenzori Vanilla Farmers Union has reforesting projects for indigenous trees, and grows their vanilla symbiotically in the sustainable and biodiverse agro-forestry environment of the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
We offer a strong point of difference through our commitment to quality, soil and community, fully embracing Conscious Planet's #SaveSoil Movement; through a unique flavour profile which customers love, and through our origin from Uganda versus the majority from Madagascar. We are able to offer Private Label.
Our greatest joy has been to put all our vanilla profits back into an extraordinary school for farmers' children. This is not your typical school funded by business in African countries; living here among our farmers we have worked together to create a world class school that honours our local culture.
