המכון הלאומי למדיניות אקלים וסביבה באוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב הוקם על ידי בית הספר לקיימות ושינויי אקלים ע"ש גודלמן-זוננפלד והפקולטה לניהול באוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב, והוא מכון מחקר מוכוון מדיניות במטרה להוות גשר של העברת הידע ותרגומו לקידום מדיניות אקלים יעילה ומיטיבה המבוססת ידע ומחקר. המכון פועל בצומת שבין מחקר אקדמי, מדיניות ציבורית, חברה אזרחית והסקטור הפרטי ומהווה כלי לגיבוש ועיצוב מדיניות אקלים מבוססת ידע, רלוונטית ומשפיעה.
אירועי ה-7 באוקטובר והצורך לשקם את הנגב המערבי, משתקפים גם הם במטרות המכון. גישה מכוונת שגשוג ושותפות בין מגזרים וקהילות בשילוב גורמים סביבתיים, חברתיים וכלכליים תאפשר להכיר בפוטנציאל של האזור ולטפח אותו בשנים הבאות.
בראש המכון החדש עומדת תמר זנדברג, השרה להגנת הסביבה לשעבר, וזאת לאחר פעילות פוליטית בת 20 שנה, בה הובילה מדיניות סביבתית ואקלימית חסרת תקדים במספר היבטים.
The National Institute for Climate and Environmental Policy (NICEP) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was established to promote science-based policy. By translating scientific knowledge into best practices, the Institute aims to pioneer evidence-based policy solutions, ensuring sustainability and prosperity across all levels of governance and industry. The Institute will empower national and local decision makers as well as the private sector to foster impactful climate policies that benefit humanity and society.
The new Institute is headed by former Environmental Protection Minister Tamar Zandberg.
