The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) is a premier national centre under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. It plays a key role in training, research, and consultancy in the areas of rural development and Panchayati Raj. Location: Main campus is at Hyderabad, Telangana. A North-Eastern Regional Centre (NERC) is located in Guwahati, Assam. Functions: Capacity building of rural development functionaries, elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and NGOs. Research and policy formulation in rural development. Consultancy services to national and international organisations. Promotes innovations and best practices in rural livelihoods, natural resource management, decentralised governance, and more. Key Centres & Focus Areas: Centre for Natural Resource Management, Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation (CNRMCCDM) Centre for Decentralised Planning and Governance (CDPG) Centre for Social Inclusion and Gender Concerns (CSIGC) Centre for Wage Employment (CWE) Centre for Rural Infrastructure (CRI) Centre for PG Studies & Distance Education (CPGS&DE) Training Programs: Offers both short-term and long-term training programs. Conducts specialized courses for national flagship programs like MGNREGA, PMAY-G, DDU-GKY, NRLM, and others. Academic Programs: Offers Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Rural Management (PGDM–RM) approved by AICTE. Collaborations: Works closely with state governments, international agencies (e.g., UNDP, FAO, UNICEF), and other research institutions.
